Thanksgiving can be a very inviting and empowering time. It’s amazing what a meal and family gathering can do. We know the table is the heart of this special Thursday (well, besides Mr. Turkey) and we think she should be as festive as the leaves outside. If you are looking for some creative additions to your Thanksgiving centerpieces that won’t upstage Mr. Turkey, look no further, we’ve got you covered!
Yes, leaves are falling off the trees, but why not bring those magical colors to your table? Fluff them around the table, in the vase, between flowers or wherever your heart desires.
Acorns & Berries
Leaves aren’t the only things coming off the trees. Acorns can also be a great raw addition to your centerpiece. Fall is a very natural and organic season that is embodied in Thanksgiving. Berries are another source of inspiration, match the crimson of the cranberry sauce or of the trees outside. They can be added to the water or surround the vase for a nice additional splash of color.
There are times and places for everything and pumpkins definitely rule this time of year. We carve and roast them anyway, so why not bring them to the table for one last celebration. Use it as a vase or scatter them around as additional focal points.
Or take advantage of the “seasonal vibe” and make a DIY corn vase or fill a cornucopia with flowers and your other seasonal favorites to truly embody Thanksgiving.
Wheat isn’t really “seasonal” meaning it is restrictive to the “Thanksgiving” season, but it does bear homage to the natural edge that fall brings. Using a few straws throughout your centerpiece could really be a nice touch,
While sand is more commonly associated with summer, it is a great textured neutral to add to the base of candles or around the vase or if your centerpiece doesn’t need water, then sand could make a great alternative.
DIY Flea Market Finds
Flea Markets and thrift stores can be great to find accent pieces for your centerpiece. If rustic is totally down your ally, try to find some crates to set them in or if shabby chic is more your style, some colored vases may be a creative choice. If you are feeling extra crafty, try adding an antiqued look with some paint.
While Princess Diaries and the Kingdom of Genovia may not be what you are going for in your arrangement, pears are indeed an excellent choice. Use them in or at the base of the vase or in between flowers, either way, they are bound to add a sweetness to your table.
Another natural material that compliments the season. If you want to bring the woods in, adding sticks to the arrangement could be a nice trick, but our favorite is using stumps as coasters or as a base for your vase. The warmth wood can bring to the table really embodies the holiday in our opinion.
The magic weapon of the holidays. Candles are a great way to set the mood. While we recommend not putting them too close to your food or your flowers, we do recommend using them as accessories to the aroma of food and family. For example, using pumpkin spice tea lights in a vase full of coffee beans…imagine that as you cut the turkey over memories and laughter.
Flowers are the most versatile piece for a table, they can evoke the mood or emotion of the entire day. So why not bring the colors of outside in or embrace your interior decor palette on the table? Flowers are a wonderful place to start as so much can be added or subtracted to personalize them further.
